Cutting sample rounds from five to two, without skipping the checks
Two sample rounds are achievable when round one tests all meaningful variables and round two verifies only controlled corrections against a single approved brief.
What to check before you decide
- Freeze the specification, reference images, materials, dimensions and approvers before the first sample starts.
- Consolidate feedback into one dated comment list rather than separate messages from multiple stakeholders.
- Set a final approval deadline and define which changes require another physical sample.
Keep the buying decision controlled
Start with one written brief: the product or service required, the buyer's target market, the commercial decision to make and the person who can approve the next step. Compare supplier answers against that same brief, keep versions of specifications and quotations together, and record each open point with an owner and date. This approach makes remote work, a China visit and a later inspection part of one evidence trail rather than separate conversations.
The mistake to avoid
Shortening sampling does not mean skipping checks. It means resolving preferences before production work begins and preventing late, unowned comments.
