When you actually need to fly to China — and when remote-first is enough

Published 2026-10-17 · goChina Events editorial

Fly to China when the decision requires physical comparison, relationship depth or production evidence that cannot be obtained remotely; otherwise, qualify suppliers first from a distance.

What to check before you decide

Keep the buying decision controlled

Start with one written brief: the product or service required, the buyer's target market, the commercial decision to make and the person who can approve the next step. Compare supplier answers against that same brief, keep versions of specifications and quotations together, and record each open point with an owner and date. This approach makes remote work, a China visit and a later inspection part of one evidence trail rather than separate conversations.

The mistake to avoid

A trip without an agenda can create confidence without evidence. Conversely, delaying a visit until after a critical commitment can remove the chance to correct a bad assumption.
